The Department of Political Science, Hindu College, successfully conducted a speaker session by Professor Ujjwal Kumar Singh, on the topic ‘Indian Constitutionalism: Exploring the Visions of Gandhi, Ambedkar, and Dakshayani Velayudhan’. The session took place on Tuesday, 12th November, in the Seminar Hall. Prof. Singh, with his expertise in Indian Constitutionalism and Democracy, provided key insights on how the three key figures shaped India’s constitutional framework.
In a captivating speaker session, Prof. Singh brought some focus to the contribution of Dakshayani Velayudhan, which is significant in drafting the Indian Constitution. Being the only Dalit woman member of the Constituent Assembly, Dakshayani became one of the important forces representing the subaltern by providing insights that were missing or scant. Dakshayani’s views were different from those of Gandhi and Ambedkar in many aspects. Gandhi’s vision of upliftment and Ambedkar’s drive for legal and constitutional guarantees had their say in the Constitution, but Dakshayani was more concerned…
